Mykonos: Season 2020 insider tells all

Q: Hi Christina, first tell us how many summers you have worked on Mykonos?
C: Well … this was my 8th season there.


Q: I guess this year was quite different for you and the BlueVillas team there this year. I know you had all the covid precautions, of masks and social distancing. And the villas have strict covid cleaning protocol to follow.
C: Yes exactly. We prepared before the season started so we knew what to do and we were following all the government guide lines. Of course, this year we didn’t go to night clubs or parties, and in August there was a government guideline that night venues had to shut at 12pm, and this helped reduce the number of crowds. All our team avoided big groups of people, but lots of life here happens outside so there was still lots of fun places to go to.


Q: It is true Mykonos has some cutting-edge designer beach bars and restaurants that are all open-air.
C: Indeed. This season Nammos and Principote were as popular as ever. Nammos was designed by the famous Seora London based design studio. It might be one of the most opulent beach projects in the world, and Conde Nast added it to their Gold List in 2017. It is on Psarou beach and this exclusive venue is sophistication and relaxation in one.
Principote Beach Club in Panormos was designed by prominent Greek architect Athanasios Kyratsous, and every detail is a delight to the senses. The feature material of natural wood blends with the landscape to create a ‘Zen’ feeling for total relax and harmony.

And for sea air and clean golden beaches without designer bars and too many people, you should try Agios Sostis Beach and Kapari Beach. Kapari is about 6km west of Town with golden white sand and lovely views of Delos island.
Agios Sostis is about 8 km north from Mykonos Town and is an unspoilt beach with no beach bars.

Q: Thanks that’s good to know, and now. lastly, tell us the gossip! What celebrities where there this year and where did they go to party?
C: Well, we had the British guy, the football captain, Harry Maguire. But he got arrested after allegedly fighting in Mykonos Town, this was in August. And we had the beloved tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas here in July. Every year most stars and VIPs like to party at Scorpios and this year was no exception. Scorpios was designed by famous K-Studio. There is an inside bar and lounge, an open-air restaurant, and the beach club. The designers did a great job of blending the architecture into the Cycladic landscape, and there is a feeling of total laid-back luxury. The Scorpios experience is a must for Mykonos visitors. I am not sure how much social distancing was happening, but you know Mykonos, nothing stops the party!
